There has been a growing concern that the operating cords of window coverings pose a danger to children and pets. Consequently, the Canadian government has mandated that manufacturers should eliminate this hazard and has given until the middle of 2021 to comply.

For some time now, the Government has been concerned about the growing number of infant deaths from strangulation by cords on window coverings. As a result, it began working on legislation to ban cords on window coverings, and the Government has now taken a more concrete step by stepping up its efforts to outlaw the use of corded blinds as early as 2021.

Corded blinds pose a genuine danger to the safety of young children. Numerous infant strangulation incidents related to blind cords have been recorded through the years, and sadly the fatalities continue to occur. To prevent the risks corded window treatments present to children, the Canadian Health Department has proposed changes to the Corded Window Covering Products Regulations.
